This class is for beginners to amateur photographers looking to gain a better understanding of the automated modes and features, as well as the manual control and capabilities of your digital SLR.
Understanding the basics of exposure and metering are the building blocks to becoming a good photographer. How your cameras metering system works, metering modes, scene modes, advantages of RAW versus JPEG image files, interpreting the histogram, exposure compensation, manual controls and much more will all be discussed!
Knowing all the science and mathematics behind photography can only take you so far. The art of photography is 90 percent seeing and 10 percent photographing. Instructor Michael Downey will go over basics such as the rule of thirds, perspective, horizontal vs. vertical orientation, and designing a photograph to assist you in developing your own personal style and vision.
When you look at an image you see the finished product, not what the photographer saw to make that image. And it's in this prior knowledge the photographer can take a snap shot and make a true photograph. Developing this type of vision takes both practice and patience.
Michael is the Head Instructor of Unique University. He currently owns and operates Michael Downey Photography, Inc. out of Somerville, New Jersey. He has photographed hundreds of moderate to high-end weddings throughout the northeast. He also teaches regularly during photowalks and workshops. His images can be seen at New Century Artist Art Gallery in the Chelsea section of Manhattan.
What to Bring: You will need a pen and your DSLR camera for every class.
